About 750 passengers on the Queens no. 7 subway line were evacuated Sunday after they hit an object in a tunnel, trapping the entire train in a cloud of smoke. The Manhattan-bound No. 7 train struck the object shortly after leaving the Vernon Blvd-Jackson Avenue station in Long Island City at about 5:30 p.m., Deputy Commissioner Francis McCarthy said at a news conference, according to the New York Post.Smoke filled the subway car after the crash.Rescue trains were dispatched to take stranded commuters back to the station, officials said.No injuries were reported.Power was briefly shut down after initial reports of people allegedly walking on the tracks. When the report turned out to be untrue, power was restored so rescuers could evacuate passengers.”Once it was clear that no one was on the track, we had to turn the power back on and send a rescue train to get people trapped in the tunnel,” McCarthy said.Police are investigating whether the object was deliberately placed on the tracks.Compilation: V
